From University To Your Home – Speed Reading

May 8th, 2010 Posted in education | no comment »

What started as a university lecture seminar has evolved into an affordable do-it-yourself course designed to make everyone “from stay-at-home moms and dads to administrative assistants to MBAs to CEOs” more valuable to their company in the form of The Complete Speed Reading Program.

The Complete Speed Reading Program, Family Edition, includes four books (available both as a PDF download and “if desired” in print):

Speed Read in Only One Hour teaches the basic techniques and has multiple reinforcement exercises. If You Can Read This, You Can Read Faster is specifically designed for children. It is written at a third-grade reading level to help the young brains the best chance to re-learn how to read. It also teaches the basic techniques of the program. Be Dynamic Through Speed Reading is essential for anyone looking to go to college or go back to school. Focusing on concentration, note taking, and recall, this book will help students wade through the millions of words that need to be read each semester and give them time to not only finish their studies, but also to have a social life.

Think Right is a book not on speed reading, but as SpeedRead America takes a holistic approach to everything we do “helps one develop one’s own self-power and provides an ethical viewpoint on technology” Think Right focuses on learning to help set your thoughts on what you want and then accomplish whatever that might be.

In addition to the books, the Complete Speed Reading Program has a dozen audio files designed to be listened to at any time “during a commute, during “down time” at work, or even during sleep” to buttress not only the speed reading, but the other topics covered in the books. Some of the audio files supplement the speed reading program while others cover reading comprehension, accelerated learning skills, memory enhancement and intuitive development. Others take on a more spiritual bent, offering tips and conditioning to aid in relaxation and stress relief, developing self confidence and self power, and eliminating the inner negative dialogue.

Speed Read Complete books and courses have been sold all over the world, and have been translated into six major world languages. Developed by Dr. Jay Polmar, an expert in the fields of self-improvement, continuing education and self-growth, The Complete Speed Read Program for Families boasts a success rate unheard of in its industry and offers a full money back guarantee that you will be reading noticeably and significantly faster in only 21 days.

Learning The Mechanics Of Speed Reading

The mind is a source of immeasurable power, and we only use a tiny portion of it. In the book, “Speed Reading in only One Hour” I show you how to tap some of that unused power and how to use it for your own improved grades in high school, college, and great successes life.

Your brain and mind are capable of understanding from 10,000 to 50,000 units of information every minute; one unit being equal to one word. This information is based upon somewhat old statistics (1980’s). Based on new speed reading technology, as well as strides in brain and mind development, you can probably achieve phenomenal reading speeds yourself and easily.

The average high school graduate, when tested, reads about 250 words per minute. The college student reads at about 300 words per minute. But, no matter what your beginning reading speed, don’t worry, it is only the starting line. Imagine what an advantage you will have to be able to read over 100% faster than you had before; the possibilities are limitless.

We receive information through our five physical senses, (touching, tasting, hearing, smelling, and seeing) and by those we make decisions. We make choices and judgments from the factors that our physical senses bring into play. The five physical senses (sight, smell, hearing, taste, touch) are preprogrammed for automatic reaction.

We learn in many way, not only from physical senses, but through other forms of thought. Most thinking is conscious in nature. Senses, on the other hand, work automatically. An example of an automatic response might be: when a hungry teenager smells pizza, he or she begins salivating. Or was that Pavlov’s dog? Actually, it’s the same! What’s taking place is that the sense of smell (called olfactory senses) has automatically brought up a thought, “PIZZA”, to the brain and mind. The thought may be unconscious.

Sensing food is a physical sensation of your sense smell. It is a mental sensation (unconsciously or consciously) through thinking. And finally, there tends to be a physical sensation by eating, swallowing, and smiling. To summarize the PIZZA experience: Brain and mind is where the “action” is — and your body is where the “reaction” is.

The brain and the mind has enormous untapped power; I’ll teach you how to tap into that potential through Speed Reading in One Hour, available at www.speedread.org . I’ll show you how you can be a total success in your college life and beyond.

Tinted Reading Glasses As A Better Alternative

Nov 28th, 2009 Posted in style | no comment »

Tinted reading glasses are very convenient to have if you enjoy reading, but your eyesight is less than perfect and you would like to be able to read something other than books at home. It can be extremely difficult to read things outside without reading glasses, not only because of any possible eyesight troubles that you may have, but also due to the bright sun light. Normal reading glasses are all well and good, but there are some situations where tinted styles are better to have.

The sun’s ultra-violet rays can do more than make it difficult to see: they can also do damage to your retinas. You may have always used a plain pair of reading glasses before, but has your eyesight gotten worse over time? Is it difficult to read when the sun is shining brightly? If you answer yes to either one of these questions, you need tinted reading glasses protection from ultra-violet rays. They do no good to your eyes and over time could make it so you will have to constantly wear glasses.

The need for tinted glasses, reading or otherwise, has gotten so high that they have almost become the norm. Standard or transitive tinted lenses are coming very close to being the norm for many people.

It’s important for you to find a pair that is both flexible and durable. Tinted reading glasses, just like any other pair of glasses, can break easily if they are low quality. Usually pairs that are flexible are also incredibly durable, not to mention lightweight. It’s a good idea not to go with the cheapest pair you can find, otherwise they could not be as flexible as they claim and could break after an incident. Though reading glasses are always relatively affordable, pairs that have prices which range from $1 to $3 are generally not even worth that much.

If you can find a pair that is very lightweight you should seriously consider them. Lightweight glasses are less noticeable to you while you are wearing them and hence more comfortable. You can find some pairs that are classified as ultra light weight. These are often a little more expensive, but they are worth the price if you do not like the feel of glasses sitting on your nose.

Anyone who needs to wear reading glasses should invest in a pair of tinted reading glasses as well for outdoor use. When shopping for a pair, be sure to try them all on to see which tint and weight is more suitable to you. While getting rid of your old reading glasses is not recommended, you can still get a tinted pair to use in a variety of situations where reading outdoors comes up. While some people do not like having to look through tinted glasses, sometimes it is a necessity to keep up your ocular health.

Having difficulty reading things outdoors? A pair of tinted reading glasses will be able to assist you in reading better for those times when you want to read outdoors.
