Do The Right Tools Have Anything To Do With Mindset And MLM

Sep 13th, 2010 Posted in business | no comment »

When you start something new it is very hard to know ahead of time what tools and knowledge you’re going to need. Combine this with a natural resistance towards spending money on an unknown venture and you’ll likely wind up lacking something that’s essential to your business.

Funny thing is when I was a traditional entrepreneur, I spent thousands and thousands of dollars a month on rent, employees, marketing and so much more BUT when I began a home based business…..I got cheap!

O.K, not totally true but there is a tendency to “hold back” and not spend money and I can understand being careful but the reality is you need to make right decisions for your business and this often means spending in the right areas when it comes to tools, services, marketing and lead generation AND the right business model.

By the way, my first attempt developing an online business utilized cheap domain names (.biz, .info) and web hosting which impeded my ability to have a professional looking web site. The truth is I felt overwhelmed entering a new industry and market. There was simply too much to know and I didn’t know where to get the right information to make my business a success. When things looked liked they weren’t working I often times switched gears or abandoned that idea but this meant a loss of time and money. It took some time but I began to turn the corner.

Knowing When And Where To Ask For Help… This is key and you need to find the person(s) that will help you get where you want to get WITHOUT all the HYPE and GURU stuff as this tends to only empty your pockets and has little to do with putting money into your bank account.

Simply take a step back and look at your business with “objective” eyes. Does the model make sense and what is your expected outcome? If you are building an M.LM do not over think it but realize you may need to apply yourself for 3-5 years in order to build a sizeable organization that pays well.

If you’re into affiliate marketing and have a gross commission of $30 per sale; analyze that and realize you will need to sell 100 of them in order to earn $3,000 monthly (less marketing expenses). The above is not good or bad; simply look at this from a business point of view as I did for many years in my traditional and offline businesses.

O.K, great advice but what does this have to do with tools, your mindset and making money?

Your mindset can be destroyed if you see failure and after failure and weeks, months and even years go by without the success you’re dreaming about. So, look at your business and decide if it’s the right “vehicle” to get you where you want to go. If it is, great! If not, pick another “horse” and ride it.

Next, seek a coach or mentor to advise you on the tools or services that are “must have” to help you succeed and avoid the $3k Guru programs for now and just get practical advice. This doesn’t have to be expensive.

Finally, and this is actually first. Develop you inner game, your mindset. Who are you talking to, who are you connecting with and what books are you reading?

Just to let you know, hanging out on Facebook is not the secret to getting rich…great social media but you need to take action and implement. More on this later….

Stay Strong!

Your Investment In Your Home Based Business

Sep 12th, 2010 Posted in business | no comment »

If you are contemplating whether or not a business in the home is the right decision for you, the first thing you must consider is how much of an investment you can afford. Each opportunity will require something, whether it is time or money. The following will help you to determine the right steps to take with your investment in a home based business:

One of the first considerations must be the financial needs for a home based business. From the cost of registering a domain name and the creation of a website or an actual $5,000 investment, it is going to cost some money to start a new business. The main consideration is how much you are willing to risk. Truthfully, there is a great chance a new business will fail, as most of them do. Do not invest an amount you can not afford to lose.

Second, you have to consider the investment of time. If you are working a fulltime job outside the home and plan to continue to do this until your business is bringing in enough investment, it will be difficult. You have to be realistic. If an opportunity requires you to put in forty hours a week to earn a profit, you will first have to consider whether you actually have this amount of time. Truthfully, there is no sense joining if you do not have the time to put in.

Last, anyone considering working from home must consider the actual risk. Working at a job outside your home, you will only need to concentrate on the job. Working in your home will put you in a dilemma of deciding which things are more important and prioritizing work and home chores can be confusing.

Your actual investment with a home based business is about more than your finances. It is also about the time you need to commit in creating a successful business. Those who do not have the time or feel they will not be able to work efficiently in the home may not want to invest in this type of business. However, if you never take the risk with this, you may never again have the opportunity for achieving financial freedom.

The first step with your online marketing business is to set-up a website or blog using squarespace.com for example where you can sell both your own products and services or someone else’s (commonly known as affiliate marketing). This will be your starting point and the central point of your business. Your website should contain all relevant information about your business as well as your products and services. If you can, set up the website so you can capture customer data such as name and email address by using an auto responder such as Get Response.

Once you’ve set up your website or blog, you need to make it easy to be found for someone who is looking for the products or services you offer. To do this, you must know the basics of SEO. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. It is a strategy used by all online marketers to make your website rank higher in the search engine results. There are many strategies for SEO. Keywords mean you need to include words that are often used in search queries with Google, Yahoo and MSN for example. To look for keywords, try to familiarise yourself with the Google Keyword Tool. Real-Life Lessons In Online Business How To – Part 2

Aug 16th, 2010 Posted in computer | no comment »

In my first article, I told you about some of our background in starting an internet business. We have sold homeschool curriculum, eBooks, and home-study courses built around online business how to tips. And we have learned a lot about the intnert through both our success and failures.

The first eBook we ever sold, my wife wrote. It is called Raising Leaders, Not Followers. Basically it was an eBook designed specifically for homeschoolers, teaching them how to raise their kids for leadership positions. My wife approached me with the idea, and I said, “Honey, it is not really a barn-burning topic. I just do not know that you are going to make any money with it.” Well, she proved me wrong. She sold $11,197 the first 19 days. How is that for internet marketing 101?

Not too shabby, right? On the heels of her first success, my wife started thinking about another eBook for the Christmas season. She said to me, “Sweetie, I am going to write another eBook about preparing your heart for Christmas. It seems like a lot of people get close to Christmas day and end up discouraged because they were not really prepared for the season. The presents are great, but what do they do next?”

I told her, “That is a great idea, but there is so much free stuff on the internet about Christmas. How do you think you will get people to buy it?” I was not too optimistic, but she proved me wrong again. She sold over $2000 with her Christmas eBook. It turned out to be an unexpected bonus. And now every year, we roll it out a month or so before Christmas, and every year we get the same bonus.

Do you see what I mean? I will admit that I may not be the brightest bulb, but seeing my wife hit two home runs on the internet without any business or marketing training convinced me. I started thinking I could do it, too. I could start an internet business.

I had a red pickup truck. It was a Ford F150. My daughter had taken it to high school. She was playing softball with the high school. And all of a sudden, her teammates were screaming, “Gentry, your truck is on fire!” She looks up. There were flames going 20 feet high out from under the hood.

Turns out Ford had recalled the cruise control switch in this particular model. And I could see why. Once we got the fire put out, we could see that the truck was totaled. I called Ford, but all they could do was apologize. It seems they had notified me of the recall by sending me a notice to my previous address in Texas. But we lived in Idaho.

Since I was going to seminary and low on cash, I decided to try my hand at the online business set up. I put up a website that showed pictures of my truck’s blackened engine and said, “I can help you if you will help me.” I compiled a ton of free stuff about internet marketing – a graphics package, software, ebooks, marketing tips – and sold them all together for $47 a person. I made about $5,500 in just 9 short days.

I hope what you are seeing from these real-life examples is that you can succeed on the internet. Seriously! All you need is a little online business ho to and you can begin making a profit.
