Personal GPS Trackers are a Backpack Essential

Jul 30th, 2009 Posted in automotive | no comment »

You should never consider a trip into the wild country without one of the best personal GPS trackers in your backpack. Trekking always requires a great deal of preparation and common sense and whether you like it or not, you should always consider a worst-case scenario. If you are traveling alone, especially, you must understand that your journey could take you into areas which are very remote and far away from any quick help. Don’t think that nothing will happen to you, as the age old Murphy’s Law could dictate misfortune when you least expect it.

Nobody likes to think that a search and rescue operation may be mounted for them. We’ve all seen it on the news — a hiker or a backpacker fails to return when they’re supposed to and loved ones start to panic. These operations can be particularly stressful on all concerned and can be very expensive all around. Consider how personal GPS trackers could come to your assistance and avoid all this drama.

Personal GPS trackers are great all around tools which work virtually everywhere. Activate them at the press of a button in any emergency situation, even if you are injured and in some way incapacitated. The emergency signal will be sent to an appropriate location and start the rescue process. Think of the tracker as a lifesaver.

Personal GPS trackers work by logging onto a satellite located in “low earth orbit” above you. As long as the satellite is basically above the horizon, your unit will be able to lock onto it and send its signal efficiently.

Personal GPS trackers are an essential, individualized security aide. They are highly versatile and efficient, logging your exact location, recording your whereabouts at all times and tracking your process every five minutes or so.

If and when you should ever become lost in the wilderness, especially in inclement weather or in the winter season, you should know that time can be of the very essence. Personal GPS trackers, when an emergency signal is activated, can help rescuers get to you as quickly as possible. Hopefully this will save you from having to endure a night in life-threatening conditions. Without the tracker, chances are that it would take many hours of searching to locate you.

Search and rescue operations often involve a considerable risk to personnel, so many are suggesting that personal GPS trackers be mandated. This legislation may be some way off but it may well be adopted and you will be expected to carry one of these items if you go into the wilderness. Weigh up the potential and alternatives and see how cost effective they can be.

When you are worrying about packing your backpack and all the room necessary for your sleeping materials, first aid kit, clothing, firesticks and other survival aides, realize that personal GPS trackers are very compact and should be one of your first thoughts, not your last.

Flexible Motorcycle GPS Systems for the Open Road

Jul 24th, 2009 Posted in automotive | no comment »

There is nothing like the freedom of the road that the motorcycle offers its rider. Enhance that freedom by choosing a motorcycle GPS system. Whilst car passengers enjoy far more flexibility as they travel and can interact more with their onboard driver and navigator aids, motorcycle riders are not traditionally as well supported.

There are a variety of different motorcycle GPS systems on the market and your selection will be dictated by your needs. For example, if you use your motorcycle in your job as a courier you should not select items which are designed for portability in the outdoors. Those who like to go off into the unknown will like a unit that can be carried on your person as you venture off onto the nature trail. Still further solutions exist incorporating hybrid models with PDA functionality.

If pinpoint accuracy is important to you, select a motorcycle GPS system using the latest technology. For example, the Garmin Quest 2 can supply you with position accuracy up to 9 feet. If you ride within heavily forested parts of the country often, you might want to consider a unit with an external power antenna and powered by one of the latest sensitive chipsets.

If you decide that your motorcycle GPS systems is meant for exclusive use on your cycle, then you will be impressed by some of the latest developments. For example, the TomTom Rider has a specially designed antiglare screen and allows you to implement touchscreen commands whilst wearing gloves. One of the major problems of GPS connectivity on a bike is addressed through the use of a built in Bluetooth audio system which transmits spoken instructions to a headset within your helmet.

You may want to consider buying upgraded rechargeable battery products as battery power can be a major consideration when you are selecting motorcycle GPS systems. Regular items will only last a certain amount of time before failing.

Most of the latest motorcycle GPS systems have been designed specifically for this environment. They are weatherproof, have tough outer casings and linings and come complete with a shockproof mount which is designed to absorb the wear and tear of our bumpy streets and roads. Remember that the motorcycle is not as cushioned as the regular family car, so you should look for a vibration monitoring system at all times.

Traveling with groups is fun when riding and you can explore the possibilities for two-way communication these days. Did you also know that a system exists which can display the location of other riders in your group on your screen?

When you are ready to select motorcycle GPS systems make sure that you accurately assess your particular needs. You can choose interesting features such as real-time and on-demand traffic information, in helmet voice, hands-free phone, but you should always find out how easy the device is to update, as well, of course, as its overall cost.

Get Your Hands On A New And Improved Dash

Jul 17th, 2009 Posted in technology | no comment »

T-Mobile Dash was a very popular phone when it was released. It quickly became a favorite among users. With its nice design and great list of features it was a very versatile phone. But it was far from perfect. T-Mobile hoped to satisfy its customers with fixing some of the problems with the new T-Mobile Dash 3G.

The T-Mobile Dash 3G is a simply a great looking phone. It has a top notch design. One of its most notable design upgrades is the soft finish which is found on the back of the device. The soft back makes the phone look and feel more sophisticated. The size of the phone is very reasonable and the Dash 3G will fit easily into anyones pocket and will not feel cumbersome. Two major flaws are the screens size and lackluster display. The screen is rather small and viewing websites, long messages, and even photos might require you to scroll down just to view it in its entirety. The Dash 3G has a resolution of only 320×240. Other smartphones such as Curve 8900 features a 480×320 resolution. The lower resolution is apparent when comparing the look of photos and texts to other phones. You can sometimes see the noticeable pixels. Thankfully the phone features a very easy to use trackball navigator. The trackball navigator works better than the out of date d-pad found on the Sprint Snap smartphone. Despite its compact design the Dash features a very nice full QWERTY keyboard. The keys are spaced far apart, are raised, and have a slight curve to them. The lettering and numbering of the keys is also a great addition. They are easy to read and decipher.

The phone obviously offers 3G service. This is a great addition because there hasnt been a suitable 3G phone available from Sprint. Websites, videos, songs, etc will load with great speed. This phone is a great upgrade from either the Sidekick LX 2009 or the G1. The Dash 3G also allows users to link up their email and instant messaging accounts, allowing them to instant receive email and message alerts. Another addition to the Dash is the expansive GPS services. Using TeleNav Navigation you are able to receive real time voice guided directions to your destination.

The phone features a very impressive 2 megapixel camera. It is an obvious improvement over the 1.3-megapixel camera found on the previous Dash. There are many image capturing options and presets which help you take the best looking photo possible. The phone can also record video. The video quality is decent but as expected too much movement will result in grainy video.

The T-Mobile Dash 3G is a very good phone. It enhances and improves on everything the Dash did. Its a great phone for anyone who is looking for a versatile phone packed with amazing features. But be wary of the small screen.

Why GPS For Cars Is A Major Boost To Our Productivity

Jul 16th, 2009 Posted in technology | no comment »

Our friend the automobile has transitioned over the last couple of decades from a standard workhorse to a provider of luxury, comfort and ease. Technological chances have opened a wealth of options to assist us with our needs. Our journey is made much more efficient as wireless communication technology allows us to use a global positioning system.

GPS for cars is a great navigational aid which has become quite sophisticated since its introduction. Originally developed for the Armed Forces, this global positioning system was introduced as a basic device to search for particular location on a map.

Analyzing GPS for cars, we see that it works by monitoring 24 different, dedicated satellites high above the Earth’s orbit. The satellite’s revolve around us twice per day and are monitored by a variety of ground stations. The role of ground stations is to verify the signals and messages from the satellites and once verified, these are passed to receivers installed within each car.

When GPS for cars was introduced, the high level of accuracy was achieved through a combination of measures. Basically, the location of the satellite and the time the signal takes to reach the receiver would determine the actual position and this is triangulated through the use of three satellites to accurately pinpoint. Atomic clock synchronization between the GPS system and the satellite ensures highest levels of accuracy.

Why is GPS for cars so popular these days? There are several reasons including the most obvious. Due to the complexity of our road system these days we simply want to find the best route to our destination. The software is very adept at calculating the optimum distance and route immediately for us and will display this data back to us as we drive. Secondly, as time is of the essence in virtually everything we do these days the amount of time needed to get to a particular destination will also be displayed. Thirdly, at our roads are clogged by more and more cars on a daily basis the software has the capability of displaying traffic problems, when digitally linked through to the providers of such information.

Retailers often provide GPS for cars as a standard item, although you should know that some of the better units are available through independent retailers. These days, units can be configured in so many different ways and there is something available to suit every budget.

Technology can come to your assistance when you really need it. Should you be in the unfortunate position of having your automobile stolen, GPS for cars can come to your help. Complete information can be gleaned according to the destinations, speed and duration of the trip.

Remember some handy tips when considering GPS for cars. Firstly, always program you’re route before you leave for your destination. This is preferable as you will get the most efficient route from start to finish. Secondly, don’t try and make modifications when you are driving, as it can be dangerous. Pay all your attention to the road ahead. The software will give you adequate warning of any impending direction changes and has been specifically designed to take into account multiple lane changes and the potential for confusion around busier intersections.
