It does not mean that when it works out well with them, it will have the same effect on you. You may be encouraged to what seems to be a good procedure, but, it is not necessarily good for you too.

Is detox diet just a fad? Well, we all have our own stand. We can only answer for ourselves. Detox may be admired these days, but who knows, when another kind of diet come about? Health industry is spending a lot of money to further the improvement on the so called ‘detox’ diet; turning them into diverse forms. But, come take a closer look, the essentials are the same. It is just being presented in a manner that is not the same as what has been already introduced. In reality, detox diet is basically an intake of natural and unprocessed foods as opposed to high fat content foods.

Fad or not, who can really say? It can only be explained by individuals who tried and succeeded; or be contradicted by those who tried and failed. One way or another, there is pros and cons. It is a simple widespread knowledge that only a balanced diet can keep our body away from any eventual, much needed detoxification. Just do not let toxics piled up inside our body. We just follow the simple rule of eating a balanced diet. An adequate amount of protein, fibber, carbohydrates and fats (yes, our body needs some fats) will help us maintain a well nourished body. Having said all that, these foods should be taken in moderation. Anything in excess could be harmful, in the same manner that anything less could be detrimental. Again, the decision is yours.

Antibiotic Free Meat: Why Is Good For You?

Aug 11th, 2010 Posted in food | no comment »

When you go to the grocery store and shop for meat, do you feel pretty safe? Do you look at labels when you do so? Even though at first glance, the packages may look alike, some of them may in fact be unsafe. In fact, some of them may even cause illness or be deadly.

If you have watched the news lately, chances are you have heard about one of the super bugs, bacterial infections that are resistant to common antibiotics. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, is one that frequently hits the news. Have you ever wondered why there are so many of these super bugs popping up everywhere?

The reason these bugs are resistant to antibiotics is they have been overexposed to them, which has allowed them to build up a tolerance to them. The over-prescribing of antibiotics for common illnesses is one culprit. The flu, for example, is a virus and therefore immune to antibiotics. However, many doctors persist in prescribing medicine for it.

A lesser known culprit is the antibiotics used in many of the meats found on supermarket shelves. This is a more serious one since most of us are not even aware that were are taking them in. When animals are farmed for the purpose of selling their meat, they may be given antibiotics to treat or prevent illness or even aid in growth.

Residue remains in the meat even after it is processed. In theory, the residue in meat is regulated by government guidelines which are designed to ensure it is not at an unsafe level. However, there are some companies that slip through the regulations.

Another concern with eating grocery store meat is that the meat itself can be unhealthy for you. This meat contains countless bacteria, some of which are harmless and some of which in fact are harmful or even deadly. These bacteria, too, can become resistant to antibiotics, and therefore have stayed in the meat even if the animal in question was given antibiotics specifically to kill those bacteria. When you eat that meat yourself, you ingest those bacteria and any residual antibiotics, too. This can make you ill.

Those with allergies to specific antibiotics should also pay close attention to food labels and choose antibiotic free meats. While government guidelines regulate the amount of residue left in meat, they don’t take into consideration those with allergies to these medications. Depending on the severity of your allergy, eating meat which contains this residue could very well set off an allergic reaction.

When you choose meat that’s been produced without antibiotics, it’s therefore free of antibiotics so that you won’t be exposed to them. Again, there are government regulations to try to control meat safety, but anyone can use a label that says the meat is antibiotic free — even if it’s not.

To ensure you are truly purchasing antibiotic free meat, consider buying organic products. In order to label an item as certified organic, companies must meet stringent guidelines. Failure to do so would result in their loss of ability to use the label. If your local stores do not carry certified organic products, it can be purchased through mail order or online merchants.

It can be hard to stay on track with your diet. Eating at fast food restaurants and snacking throughout the day can be two of the biggest culprits, and can seriously hinder your attempts to lose weight. One way to help with this is to ensure that you plan your meals. Packing a healthy lunch for work and adding fruits and vegetables to nibble on when you are hungry between meals can help you stay on course.

Being a smart shopper will keep you on track with your diet as well. Shopping for groceries when you are hungry can be disastrous, as it is tempting to choose snack and fat filled foods. Having a filling, nutritious snack or meal before you head out to the market can help keep you out of the bakery aisle and steer you from the snack shelves. Make good choices, and top your cart up with fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Keep in mind that you need things to bring with you to work.

Make a point of planning your meals. Take meats out of the freezer in the morning, it will help you to know that you have something ready to cook and you will be less tempted to stop at a restaurant or fast food location on your way home from work. Learning to cook healthy meals can be fun, and your body will reap the rewards if you stick with it.

Joining a gym does not need to be overwhelming. Stop by a local gym and meet with a personal trainer. A trainer can develop a plan that is designed just for you. They can also help you learn how to use the different exercise machines. This boosts your confidence and keeps you motivated. If you can learn to enjoy working out, it becomes part of your life you will soon start to see a positive difference in your body and weight.

It is always a good idea to visit your doctor before you start any kind of weight loss plan, and this includes adding exercise. Your doctor can best assess your overall health, and ensure that you will not cause harm to your body by doing too much too soon. Taking it slow in the beginning is recommended.

Other options like diet pills could be suitable for you. By looking online, you will be able to find information about them and how they work. You could also consider joining a weight loss club. 6 Steps Towards A Stronger Cardiovascular System

Jul 26th, 2010 Posted in health | no comment »

A strong and healthy heart will allow you to exercise well into the later years of your life. And exercise is the best weapon to use against the top causes of death in the western world.

Unfortunately, many people are not taking the necessary steps to maximize the health of their heart.

So here is how to make your heart healthier and stronger:

1. Lift weights: Running isn’t the only modality that will make your heart healthier. In fact, weight lifting does a great job at increasing the size of your heart’s walls. And thicker walls mean that you will have a more sturdy heart.

2. Have some endurance training in your routine: Endurance training places a slightly different stress on your heart compared to weight lifting. And this different type of stress will make the size of your left ventricle bigger.

3. Have a little omega 3: The key here is to have a little. Too many people are overdoing fish oil consumption here. And if you have too much fish oil you can actually damage your heart via oxidation. So have no more than 1 gram of fish oil per day.

4. Avoid fiber supplements: You see, some research has shown that supplementing with fiber can actually increase rates of colon cancer. Thus, you are far better off getting your fiber from natural sources. And make sure you get both soluble and insoluble fiber.

5. Stay away from trans fatty acids: You really have to get into the habit of reading nutrition facts any time you are going to buy something that isn’t natural. You see, the nutrition facts will always tell you if there are trans fats present.

6. Have some cocoa: Just make sure it’s raw and organic. You see, cocoa increases vasodilation. And any time you increase vasodilation you decrease the amount of work your heart has to do. Even better, cocoa is loaded with anti oxidants.

Making your heart as strong as can be is an excellent strategy to prolong your lifespan and to prolong how long you can exercise!

For people who wish to concentrate on their fitness, joining a gym is advisable. Still, there are also people who don’t wish people see them exercise and find gym not as good as it should be. Now, why do you think these people join a gym and why do others do not ever consider joining a gym? Below are some of the benefits and drawbacks of joining a gym.

Benefits of joining a gym:

Advanced quality equipments that you can’t afford are mostly ready in gym. Such equipments include several kinds of dumbbells, barbell, cardio machine, weight lifting machines, and other equipments for your work out. There are also gyms that have pools, basketball courts, and other areas for sporting. These will keep you from getting bored of doing the same routine daily. Because of the accessibility of facilities for several workouts, you can do a lot of exercise for your routine.

In gym, there are available trainers, staffs, and other members that you can consult about your activities. Professional people such as dieticians, gym instructors, physical therapist, yoga instructors, bodybuilders, and aerobic teachers are available in gym. You can ask them on how to workout and utilise the facilities properly and have a good diet for your training .

Joining a gym is better than to have your own gym at home. Purchasing equipments for a gym will cost you a lot of money. So make sure that the gym is near your office or home.

Disadvantages of joining a gym:

The first disadvantage of a gym is having a lot of expenses. Aside from membership fee, there is also a regular fee. If you take a personal trainer, most probably there will be an extra bill. Other gyms also bill for parking lots and use of locker rooms.

Then there is an issue of time and distance. An extra time to travel just to go to a gym requires a lot of effort, most especially for working people.

There is also a question on the accessibility of the equipments. If there are many people in a gym, there might be competition in using some equipments.

Find a gym where you can change your wellness and physical fitness.

Pain Is Not A Result Of Your Age

Jul 7th, 2010 Posted in lifestyle | no comment »

Are you tired of having someone tell you at each of your birthday parties how bad you are going to feel. What’s the point! It is not like you can change your age.

I hear people say all the time, “I was fine until I hit 60, then BAM! Heart Attack.” I ask, “So at 59 you were fine?” They would say, “You better believe it. I had no problems until I became 60. You just wait, you’ll see!”

My thoughts are if I am going to be in daily pain from age 50 on, then why do I need health insurance. Skip the insurance and i can spend the money on travel, cars, and clothes, then just die at 50.

Many Americans do, unfortunately, believe that their age has everything to do with their health. In fact, doctors may tell you that your problems are due to your age. I guess it is easier as the patient will accept it without an argument.

I work with many seniors and I get to see the results of many different lifestyles. I have clients at age 80 that are taking tennis lessons to become more competitive. I have people in their 60’s, even 70’s that are running marathons or biking road races. Then I have clients in their 50’s, sometimes 40’s that are as stiff as a 4×4. Many in this age group would be happy to just be able to cross their legs. So what is the difference?

How much you hurt is really based on how well you eat, what kind of a life you live, and what type of attitude you have.

Our cars have warning lights to let know something is wrong. It may not be anything serious, but the light still goes on. The pain in your body are the warning lights for your body. It may not be serious, but it shouldn’t be ignored.

Below are some things to look out for when you experience aches and pains.

1. Diet- what you put into your mouth determines how well your body runs throughout the day. If you are tired and sluggish, you could be consuming too many carbs and your body is crashing from the sugar high. If you can’t sleep well, maybe you are drinking too much caffeine. Your food supply also determines how thin your blood is or how thick it is. Can’t focus, again maybe too much caffeine. Americans consume over 80 gallons, on average, each year. Compare that to the rest of the world at 22 gallons and you can clearly see why we can’t sleep or focus.

2. Lifestyle- When we mention lifestyle these days, everyone automatically thinks about going to the gym and working out. Unfortunately that is not the only thing that determines your lifestyle. Things to consider is the amount of sleep your get each night, how many hours do you work each day, how much stress is in your life, do you have stable relationships, or are you getting spiritual guidance to calm your life. We are in such a hurry all day, with music blaring, and surrounded by many people just like us that it really takes its toll on us.

3. Attitude- Do you feel hopeless and helpless each day? Do you hate your job? Are you in a bad relationship? How you think and self talk is a huge key to better health. I see a wide variety of people every day and the ones who wake up excited about the new day always seem to have the better jobs, better relationships, and filled with a brighter future. Think about it. Would you want to spend your time with someone who is always complaining? No Way! I have had to clear out many old friends who just kept bringing me down, no matter what I said.

It all starts with attitude. Once the attitude is in check, the lifestyle and diet will follow. If you are in a job that sucks and you hate it, find a job or career that you love and then jump on it. I know it sounds easy to say and you may not have a clue as to what you would love to do, but take some time in a quiet place to think what would really make you happy, and then figure out how to get paid for it. Once you are doing something you love, then you will wake up every morning with the anticipation of a child on Christmas morning.

Something wonderful will happen. You will start to find like minded friends, of course you have to get rid of the old ones and you never know, but maybe that perfect relationship will look you in the eye. It is not just about the money, it is about the happiness. Once you are happy, money will just follow.
