What Are Shears

Jan 19th, 2010 Posted in style | no comment »

The design of two pieces of metal that have sharpened edges and are bolted in a way so that slide against each other for cutting is what we call scissors. Scissors can be used to cut all sorts of thin objects like paper and fabric but the ones we are concerned with is hair cutting scissors.

Shears generally describe a scissor that is larger in size. Basically a scissor that is longer than 6 inches are called shears. The earliest use of scissors was recorded in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. Those early scissors were a designed by connecting apair of flat bronze plates by bending the handle which gave it a spring action when used.

When those early scissors were used they would act like a tong or a spring when pressed together and then when you released them it would go back to its original shape.scissors we use today goes back to roman and chinesetimes.Although the older model spring scissors were used until the 16th century

The name scissors and shears are some times interchangeable, but the fact is shears are usually bigger than scissors. Because of that they are used to cut heavier objects. The other type of sheer is attached to a table and the blades are moved with a lever and are used to cut very strong objects like steel plates.

With the arrival of hair styling, came a different incarnations of the scissor and one of them is the thinning shear. It is similar to ordinary scissors but the flat blades have teeth like a comb and it is used for thinning rather than trimming hair. hence the name. Stylists use it after the haircut for people who have thick hair and give the hair a layered finish look.

A Closer Look Into Dark Nail Polish

Jan 9th, 2010 Posted in style | no comment »

Dark nail polish is one of those fashions statements which some have taken to while others haven’t. As winter approaches, more people will begin using the darker shades of fingernail polish to cover up their nails, since it will more easily match their wardrobe.

There are plenty of downsides to dark colored polish, however, because your nails can often turn yellow if you leave it on too long; nonetheless, it remains a great fall or winter look for your hand. The origins of dark nail polish date back to ancient China, where having dark polish on your nails meant you were royalty; nowadays, black nail polish has a similar equivalent, as it’s often worn by the social elite.

You won’t find an incredible number of outfits that match with black fingernails; however, you can compromise by using dark hues of regular colors, like deep reds or purples. As each year goes by, another color of nail polish becomes popular; therefore, you can find plenty of alternatives to black nail polish.

It’s not hard to apply dark nail polish, but make sure to not make mistakes, as it’ll show much more clearly than with lighter shades. Since it chips more easily, and the chips are more visible, you have to constantly reapply it, which can be tedious.

If you get your nails done at a nail salon, it’s a good idea to purchase a bottle of the polish that you will be wearing. The reason being is that anyone fashionable shouldn’t bee seen with chipped nail polish on their nails whether it’s dark or light nail polish.

Make certain to use a good base coat and top coat when using darker polish as it can leave an unsightly yellow stain on your natural nail when the polish is removed. A good base coat will separate your nail from the polish and spare you the hassle of staining.

If you would like to see how the dark colored polish looks on you but you’re not very good at painting nails, then spend some money and get someone to do it for you. Your local nail salon usually only charges around $10 to $15.
