Advice On Choosing A Business Phone System

Oct 21st, 2010 Posted in business | no comment »

As a business or company expands, so do its telephone requirements. As more and more employees are added, a business telephone system will need to be set up. This is necessary because one or two phones cannot possibly deal with all of the calls that will be placed and received on a daily basis. There a few ways you can go when choosing a business telephone system.

Because business telephone systems are integrated, they enable users at any telephone connected to the system to use any line. Originally, key systems were designed to support a business system. These involved manually switching from line to line to complete calls. The user on the receiving end would have a telephone set that provided buttons that could be pushed to select the line the incoming call was on. Key systems are still in place, but relays and now large-scale integrated circuits have replaced manual switching. Costs are lower in such a system and the advanced technology allows for more conveniences like caller ID, speed dialing, and automatic call accounting.

The development of integrated services digital network (ISDN) has given rise to a business telephone system that integrates key systems with private branch exchange systems (PBX). ISDN is able to transfer at least two connections carrying any combination of voice, data, video, or fax using just one line. Key systems have developed to the point where they can support ISDN, which once was only capable on the larger, more expensive PBX systems. Hybrid systems support both digital and analog signals, although analog versions are becoming less prominent. A hybrid system offers the hands-on control of a key system while supporting the features and capabilities of a PBX system on a smaller scale.

The private branch exchange business telephone system is not operated by an outside carrier, but within a particular business or office itself. All of the internal lines located inside are then connected to the public switch using trunk lines. All of this switching is performed automatically, eliminating the tedium of manual switching. PBX systems offer more convenience, which means more complexity; therefore, they are not as cheap to maintain as key and hybrid systems. They do, however, greatly reduce the cost of internal calling since no outside local phone service is needed to do so. PBXs support many more voice and data transfers at one time because of their higher complexity.

The business telephone system you go with relies mainly on the size of the office or business. A smaller business can get by on key systems and therefore don’t need to spend as much on their phone system. As the size of the office increases, so does the need for advanced services and the need for an advanced telephone system.

How Have Cell Phones Revolutionized The Way We Communicate?

Sep 9th, 2010 Posted in business | no comment »

Every form of communication has its own format. Structures are set up which reflect the nature of the medium’s technology: letters have “dear” and “sincerely” at the beginning and end; from the oral perspective, walkie-talkies famously used the word “over” once a transmission had ended. But cell phones have greatly accelerated the pace of communication. Cell phones have so many innovations over the preceding technology that they have changed the paradigm of communication in terms of what we say, what we type, and the extent to which we are expected to be in communication.

Conversations on land lines were almost always between two people who were at their homes, and the cord figuratively and literally tied them down to their conversation. If you wanted to do something else you were nearly forced to end the conversation. Cell phone conversations are typically designed to be briefer than those on landlines because people are frequently doing something else while talking. Whether you’re walking, driving (of course with a headset now), or while in company, talking on your cell phone is frequently accompanied by some other activity. It’s hardly surprising then that conversations are more succinct and purposeful.

Text messaging and E-mails with smart phones has radically changed the way people write to each other. It’s hardly fair to compare them to mailing letters because they are transmitted instantly. Like in phone conversations, people are typically doing something else while they are messaging. Also, people like to avoid spending a long time on small, hard to use keyboards and manage to save space. For these reasons, people use grammatical shortcuts (the “@” symbol when they are directing their speech at someone) and acronyms like LOL (laugh out loud). Sometimes messaging is so curt because it’s replacing the phone conversation. For many people, it is a means of organizing a physical meeting, and so the back and forth texting doesn’t need to have depth or substance. Ex. “Hey, U @ home?” “Yes, come over” “OK”.

Finally, because of cell phones’ portability and speed at which messages are sent, people are expected to be able to read and respond to emails and text messages almost instantly. The excuse “I didn’t receive the message until…” no longer applies, as devices now not only send messages instantly, but tell the sender when their message has been read by the receiver. More importantly, messaging is now extended far beyond the work day and has entrenched itself in peoples home life. This kind of messaging does without is usually direct, professional, and businesslike.

The speed of the technology has increased our capability to communicate, and in order to keep up people no longer have time to waste on the phone, whether talking or texting. Of course personal, longer conversations take place, but as a general trend it is safe to say that people communicate with time saving efficiency in mind.

The Downside Of Freeview Aerial Installers

Aug 12th, 2010 Posted in computer | no comment »

Whether or not you decide to hire freeivew aerial installers is dependent on whether you have subscribed to the Freeview service or not. It is a new television service that is popular now in the United Kingdom and is basically activated when you but a decoder box provide by the service provider. Some issues regarding the service has been brought up especially when it comes to aerial reception of the said service, which touts that you can use your existing aerial for accessing the channels it offers. This brings to mind if you should take on the service of Tv aerial installers.

The service boasts of a subscriber being able to view an additional 30 channels on their idiot box for a onetime outright payment for a converter. No special equipment is needed except for your old school aerial for getting television signals. But sometimes there arises a need to hire an aerial installer as covered below.

The purchase of a new aerial may in fact entail other costs that are part and parcel of buying it, since you want to improve performance and reception of your new TV service. Some of these costs will be discussed so as to better prepare you for the decision of whether to get a new aerial or not.

And apart from just purchasing an alleged Freeview compatible aerial some costs compound this endeavor. There are several considerations that may add or decrease the cost of installing a new aerial if it is warranted for the use of your new aerial service. Some of these considerations will now be discussed.

The first cost that will be entailed apart from purchase of the aerial is where your preferred or suggested location will be. Whether or not it will be placed in an inaccessible or hard to get to area such as the roof will entail extra costs due to perils to safety on part of the person installing it. Another cost will of course be directly related to the aerial itself depending on what type or brand model you are buying, the costs will be reflected on this likewise.

A third factor to be considered will be how many people are demanding or ordering the installation of new aerials. The higher demand will cause prices to go up and you will not have much leverage or in a bargaining position with those installing these aerials.

But the most controllable costs of all that is seen with your aerial is directly related to how informed you are of the need. Since most aerial installers may be suggesting this and that component that you will need to buy from them, the installation cost can skyrocket. This cost is in indirect proportion of how informed you are of the technical aspects of the service, the more you know about it the lesser you will be likely to spend.

Given these cost scenarios on the installation of your new aerial should you wish to purchase a new one, you should be able to rationally weigh the options and the level of need of some of the options being offered to you by the service provider or by anyone else.
