Nov 2nd, 2010 Posted in sports | no comment »

The Yowza Keewadin treadmill gets high marks for a folding machine. For the serious runner who wants to work out at home and has limited space, it is a particularly good option. The construction is sturdy and there are features which make this machine easier on you physically than some others.

The treadmill motor is a commercial grade one, resulting in the ability to use the machine regularly and for intense workouts. It features a Swing Arm technology which absorbs shock, in some cases up to 63% more than your average treadmill. There are people who normally notice pains and aches when running that do not experience them with this machine.

The console is an attractive one and it is easily used. There are several features which can be controlled by touching just one button. Included are 15 program keys pre-set and for targeting heart rate, losing weight, fitness, speed and more. 9 different people can store their profiles so that their information does not need to be entered every time.

Other nice features to have are the cup holders and the iPod dock along with speakers. There is also a Polar Heart Rate Receiver and an included Polar chest built. Another positive feature of the machine is its quiet running.

Although the treadmill is of high quality, you will be pleased to know that it also includes a top quality warranty. The warranty covers frame, motor, electronics, parts and in-home labor. There is also a sixty-day money back guarantee.

The Yowza Keewadin treadmill is not an inexpensive folding machine. This is good, because cheap treadmills do not stand up to being used seriously. Bear in mind that the weight of it is about 300 pounds so you might want to pay the extra fee to have it brought inside.

A home fitness machine should be both efficient and fun to use to motivate you to work out. And such is what the Proform 480e LE elliptical can give you. It carries with it features that fitness buffs, as well as athletes, deem important in a machine. After all, it comes from a company, Proform, which has been manufacturing fitness machines for years now.

Stride length which measures 18″ maximizes leg movement, effectively targeting your lower body’s muscle groups. Oversized non slip pedals leave much room for foot positioning most comfortable for the user. Also, such provide stability for a smoother flowing workout session. There are movable soft-grip handlebars which workout your arms, giving a full body exercise.

The secret to the fluid and friction-less motion of the pedals is in the Silent Magnetic Resistance (SMR) feature. In this mechanism, the resistance is conveyed to the flywheel magnetically. This also allows you to enjoy 10 levels of resistance, each one accessible by a single push of the button. This elliptical trainer grows with you as your fitness level progresses, so there’s no need to buy another machine for challenge.

Making you workout with a virtual gym instructor is the ground-breaking technology, the iFit Workout Card. It’s designed by a fitness expert, and can be bought to work compatibly with this elliptical trainer. The voice of a gym instructor will guide you through varying intensities or levels of workout. And it provides you with an 8-week fitness program.

The iFit Workout Card won’t work if it wasn’t for the 480e LE’s built in speaker sound system. This feature also enables you to plug in your portable music player into the fitness machine. Now your workout sessions need not be a drag as you listen to your favorite high-intensity tracks, playing at high volume.

A blue backlit LCD screen on the console displays some important details on your working out. Some of them include an odometer, current resistance level in use, etc. Allowing you to check whether or not you’ve hit your target heart rate is the inbuilt EKG Heart Rate Monitor. Then there’s also the AutoBreeze cooling fan, which has 3 setting levels.

Titans Beat Bills In NFL Hall Of Fame Game

Nov 1st, 2010 Posted in sports | no comment »

The NFL preseason got underway on Saturday with the annual Hall of Fame Game, and the Tennessee Titans earned the victory as they built a 21-3 first half lead before holding off a late Buffalo Bills comeback to prevail 21-18. The Titans offense looked sharp in the first half, while the Bills never really got anything going in their offensive efforts. Buffalo didn’t score an offensive touchdown, and thats not going to get it done in the NFL regular season.

Tennessee starting QB Kerry Collins and backup Vince Young both looked sharp as they combined to lead the Titans offense to three first half touchdowns. Collins, who signed a two year $15 million contract during the NFL off season, sounded optimistic about his teams prospects this year based on the opening game results:

“I’m encouraged. It doesn’t take as long to get ready, but I’ll take advantage of the work I’m going to get.”

Young struggled early and after the game admitted that getting back in the groove was just the nature of the beast in the NFL preseason:

“It happens, man. I know everybody wants me to go out and be perfect, but it’s not happening like that. You can’t just jump into it.”

The only memorable offensive production for Buffalo came courtesy of Terrell Owens. T.O. was only on the field for one possession, but had two catches for 27 yards from Trent Edwards. After the game, Owens shrugged off talk of it being a statement:

“It was just what was open, Trent saw it and threw it to me. Whether or not it was a statement remains to be seen. I feel comfortable with the offense. I like it in Buffalo, but we all have a lot of work to do.”

Bills QB Edwards focused on the positives he saw in his team’s opening offensive series:

“We can build off that one opening series. Preseason is about getting comfortable. You make mistakes, then work on them. But you can take a good drive like that and go with it, too.”

The NFL preseason continues for both teams this weekend. Buffalo will play host to the Chicago Bears while the Titans will play a home game against the Tampa Bay Bucs.

Skimboard – The Combination Of Skateboarding And Surfing

Oct 20th, 2010 Posted in sports | no comment »

Skateboarding and surfing share some things in common, while differing on key points. Skateboarding focuses on the urban activity, using man-made items such as benches and railings, to allow skateboarder to perform jumps and tricks. Surfing focuses on the seashore environment, allowing surfers to ride along waves in high-adrenaline scenarios. Skimboarding combines some of the aspects of these to provide an enjoyable sport that can apply to a niche market. Using a skimboard, riders skim along the water’s surface, then they can either wave ride, like a surfer, or flatland skim, like a skateboarder. Flatland skimming allows the rider to perform tricks on the water.

The Board

Generically, it’s somewhat similar to a surfboard, but focuses more on foam materials and is shorter, but wider. Riders often seek out chest-height boards that can be up to 2 inches thick depending on the materials, but are more common half an inch to a full inch in thickness. They also come with designs called rockers, which changes the degree of nose lift the board receives. There are three types; the constant is a full curve from nose to tail; the hybrid, where the nose is curved and the tail is flat; the traditional rocker, the absolute nose is curved, nothing else.

Dangers Of Skimboarding

As with any sport, there are innate dangers with skimboarding as well. Some of them are shared with surfing, though more so because of the starting position and nature of flatland skimming, where the riders perform tricks. There is always the potential for the skimboarders to hit the ground beneath the surface of the water, injuring their limbs, extremities or head and neck. Furthermore, as skimboarding involves the rider needs to start on the shore, run and gain momentum before sliding on the skimboard, there are injuries associated with that too.

Also during this period, riders can slip off the board and injure a hamstring. Overuse of the feet can lead to broken bones there too. There’s not really much in the way of safety that can be taken except being cautious rather than reckless.

Touring Caravans For Wheelchair Users

Oct 14th, 2010 Posted in sports | no comment »

Caravanning is enjoyed by people of all ages and from all walks of life, but many disabled people mistakenly believe that they cannot go caravanning. They go on holiday, but struggle to find accommodation that is suitable for them and often pay a premium for that accommodation. For many disabled people an adapted caravan is the perfect solution, they are good value and are adapted for the whole family’s needs.

Occasionally caravans that have been adapted for wheelchair users come onto the market, but usually it is easier to buy a new caravan and work with the manufacturer to have it adapted at the build stage for a wheelchair user. Elddis, Frys and CoachBuilt GB are manufactures who have past experience of building adapted caravans, but if asked most companies will build a caravan to your specifications.

The doorway on an adapted caravan is widened and ramps are fitted. In addition, the height, width and positioning of beds, work surfaces and appliances can be changed to make movement within the caravan easier. Practically everything inside the caravan can be changed to suit the user, but the size and positioning of windows has to stay the same.

On site, wheelchair users can choose whether to use their own shower and toilet inside the caravan or the sites facilities. Not all sites have toilet or shower facilities that are suitable for the disabled or wheelchair users, but most do. Many sites also offer pitches that are surrounded by hard standing for wheelchair users, so that it is easy to get in and out of the caravan when it is raining or icy.

If owning your own touring caravan is not for you, then buying a static caravan may be a good idea. Once again, many manufactures are happy to work with disabled clients to build caravans adapted to their need. Another option for wheelchair users is an adapted motor home, unfortunately, the smaller models are rarely suitable but many motor home manufactures also have experience in building bespoke vehicles for their disabled clients and can easily adapt their large models.
