Boyfriend Xmas Gifts He Won’t Forget
Choosing your boyfriend Xmas gifts during the stress filled weeks leading up to the holiday can be a daunting experience. Fashions change, and every year seems to produce hundreds of ‘must have’ items which tend to be just as quickly forgotten. Things can get very complicated.
One excellent piece of advice which we’ve all heard in one form or another is to buy a gift which you would be happy to receive. This might sound very obvious, even trite or old fashioned, but it is a good thing to remember.
Choosing a present you personally would appreciate ought to be relatively straightforward. Granted it is probably easier to imagine an appropriate (and appreciated) gift for someone of your own sex, and finding the perfect gift for a member of the opposite sex can be more difficult. Trying to get ‘inside the head’ of the person you are buying for is one way of doing this: alternatively, perhaps you know someone (not the man you’re buying for) who can assist with decision making.
If you are financially solid and can afford to be lavish with your gifts, finding a perfect selection of Xmas gifts should present no problems. On the other hand, anyone on a more modest budget needs to be able to ‘read’ the person they are buying for, and use all their powers of imagination to find something which is both memorable and affordable. There is as much pleasure in giving as there is in receiving, or so we’re told!
If you’re short of time and haven’t been blessed with a moment of true inspiration in your quest, then cosmetics and clothing are evergreens which will always please the recipient. A word of caution, however, regarding certain traditional gifts. For men, it was once quite acceptable to give a ‘gentleman’ a pipe, tobacco, cigars and / or alcohol at Xmas. These were often given by children, who in turn would have had to involve an adult in the purchase of the gift.
Society has changed, and with it our buying habits. We are more health conscious, which means that gifts which encourage smoking are generally not considered ‘thoughtful’ any more. Health and Safety combined with heavy increases in Duty and Taxation have placed these small gifts far outside the budget of most young children. It is interesting to note, however, that many liquor firms now produce a range of seasonal ‘novelty’ gift packages which combine a bottle with an engraved glass or goblet which remains for a memory of the gift long after the bottle itself has been emptied.
For a permanent reminder of special occasions, a perennial favourite has always been a book. Sales of hardback and paperback books have held up well despite the growing popularity of eBooks. The greatest disadvantage of these is the fact that to read them, one has to purchase both hardware and software which is still prohibitively expensive. Most people would also agree that there is nothing which can compare with the feel of a well produced, perfectly bound leather book, or the delicate, unmistakable aroma of fresh print the first time you open the book. A personal message from the giver inscribed on the flyleaf is another thing which cannot accompany the gift in eBook format. For this reason alone, it is likely to be many years before the traditional quality book disappears from the list of memorable boyfriend Xmas gifts.
