Do you think that churches that promote polarization should be taxed?
Reef asked:
You know, the ones who want to remain tax exempt yet continue to force their lifestyle on society at large? And speaking of large, should obese people be forced to lose weight or face jail time since obesity is a major health detriment and causes much expense that is raising the cost of health care for all?
Finally, should gay people without children be exempt from paying for public schooling of the children of others?

Churches that violate the separation of church and state through polical activism should most definitely be taxed.
Those other questions, Reef: no and no.

Whoa…..someone got you fired up today.
Yes, I think all churches should be taxed, they are after all running a business like any other.
No, I do not think obese people should be forced to do anything, they have chosen their quicksand, it’s up to them to get the help they very much need.
And last, I think all childrenless households should be exempt from paying public schooling for the children of others. I think with every census report done annually that that is how they should work it. But that wouldn’t be fair would it…sarcasm.

It all sounds great in theory!
Putting in into practice is where they get’cha, though.

“Should we pay taxes to Caesar?” (Marcus 12:13-17)
No!, United States paganish government is ultimately unnecessarily and unbiblically, avoiding God as their pretext for rebellion and disobedience and acts like the solution to all our earthly problems.
Jesus was not the problem, but the solution, and yet they failed to see it, or to accept it even if they did understand that He was the Messiah. Unfortunately, I find many professing Christians resorting to political means and methodology because of our spiritual impotence. When we turn from dependence on God, we turn to human means and instrumentality. How often we depend more on politics than we do on the power of God to solve our problems. Let us find Him sufficient. Let us go about our task using the implements of spiritual warfare, not the secular crutches of politics. Let us look to God and not to men for the establishment of righteousness on the earth.

separation of church and state is the very thing you are trying to abolish. cancer and heart failure are far more costly than obesity. shall we execute all those with these problems? did gays go to public schools? i think you need to go back to school for more book learning or maybe sign off until you know what you are talking about/

If some right wing churches want to promote hate and ignorance then fine! However they should not receive a penny of my tax money!

You bring up an interesting point, and one that I’ve given a great deal of thought to.
All churches should be taxed. Consider the fact that all organized religions are businesses, and are run as such. There are budgets, ledgers, income and expense…..all in the name of a superstitious being. Not just Christianity, but ALL religions rely on their members for income, and that income is budgetted and spent according to the same rules as any secular business. To receive tax exempt status, all churches should be required, as are non-religious non-profit organizations, to prove, on paper, a certain established percentage of all income as having been spent or donated to tax-exempt causes in order to maintain the tax-exempt status.
I don’t know how many are aware of it, but simply by purchasing a document online, one can become a minister, and following that, establish a list of a dozen friends to be considered ‘members’ of your ‘church’ and you can apply for AND GET tax-exempt status from the US Government. No tax-exempt organization is required, by that designation, to give anything away or support any other tax-exempt charity. On the other hand, applying for 501(c)3 status, for a non-religious organization, there is a requirement that no less than 25% of your total income be donated to tax-exempt charities or causes. Failure to provide proof of compliance automatically makes such organizations inelligible to continue as a tax-exempt organizaton.
All non-profits should be held to the same standard, regardless of social focus.
Churches should be held to this standard or taxed like any other business.

i am assuming that gay people went to the same schools as everyone else, therefore they should pay for them just like everybody else. just because I haven’t called the police doesn’t mean that my taxes should not be used for police budgets.
