Malware, virus, etc etc who has been taken to the cleaners?
It seems to me that there is a very profitable industry already established in protection racket type scams on the internet. Winweb Security for example infests your computer with pop up messages claiming that your computer is under attack and advising you interminably to buy their deceitful product to fix the problem that they themselves are responsible for. They apparently have a success rate of 3.4% and this translates to an annual income of 14 million dollars every year. Their malware program is almost impossible to get rid of and others when asked advise you to try this or that program which you suspect they are being paid to promote, but to no avail. Winweb Security continues to pop up every few minutes and you start to tear your hair out. Have you had this experience and how did you deal with it? Did you terminate your internet account or did you manage to delete these malicious, infernal, damned irritating and parasitical programs? One last comment, never pay anyone on the internet. I didn’t and I have no intention of doing so.
Winweb Security installs itself. I wasn’t asked if I wanted it or not. I had no choice. The damned thing was there and keeps coming back every few minutes. I use a similar system devised to intercept these parasites but obviously Winweb found a gap and its been on my computer ever since.Clearly people pay up and assume wrongly that this will end the problem. But, it doesn’t. You still have the problem and and are down 50 dollars apparently. I didn’t pay and I don’t intend to.

Never had this problem, I use Avast Anti-virus as it does real time scans of everything in memory. As long as you use common sense and your careful of what you do online you’ll be fine. Don’t install anything unless your certain of what it is and does. If you want more information on something before installing it, try googling it and see what others say about it.
In your case if your computer is currently infested that badly I’d just format it and start fresh, learning from mistakes as you go along is a big part of life. Give Avast a try and see what it does for you. Maybe even try TrendMicro Home Call (google them) they have a scanner that you can use without downloading anything other than a java app (last I checked it was something along those lines) and they have a pretty good reputation.
Paying people online is alright as long as you’re careful.

you are talking about the several types of rouge antivirus programs that are infecting systems, Malwarebytes and superantispyware are both good proven programs to rid these infections and both are free to use
high yield investment
I blog about computer security using free programs only, and I only advise the use of free programs in Answers, but only those that i have tested myself after importing malware to ensure that they work.
The scammers behind Antivirus2008 etc have made in excess of $30 with their fake program that infects so many users pc’s.
I recommend the use of the following free programs, download, install, update and reboot into Safe Mode to remove:
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
Select Full Scan.
Remove all infections that it finds after scan.
SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition:
Select Scan your Computer, select your drive and select Perform Complete Scan and remove infections
There are others I use and recommend but it also depends upon the malware to be removed and the effect it s having on a users computer.

Avast owns.
My friends had these problems. Just backup up the crucial data, scanned and cleaned off all the virus’s, and formatted the hard drive.

Prevention is the key for these extortion schemes that are run by the Russian crime gangs. A multi-million ruble a year “industry” is what it is.
Most of this sort of crap that auto-installs (drive-by downloads) will exploit known vulnerabilities in Windows, Internet Explorer, Firefox or other installed software.
These drive-by downloads can be mostly avioded by keeping ones Windows and all other installed software always 100% patched and updated. You can no longer depend upon an anti-virus program to fully protect you.
There is a great online security tool called The Secunia Software Inspector, that scans a computer for un-secure, un-updated and un-patched apps that may be installed on your computer. Use once a month in addition to your other protections.
The Secunia Software Inspector checks for possibly vulnerable programs like Windows, Adobe, Winamp, Java etc. and notifies if critical security updates are needed. Takes about 30 seconds.
It’s pretty cool and free at:
Secunia also has a new free downloadable installed version. Called PSI. Its good too.
