An Entirely New Highly Contagious “Disease” That Could Heal the World

Jul 31st, 2009 Posted in spirituality | no comment »

With all the recent discussion of the Swine Flu and possibility of it’s swift transmission through the world’s population, it seems a good idea to consider another type of virus – one that most people could stand to be “infected” by and would be better off for it.

The thing I find most interesting about viruses is how rapidly they can overtake a population. Moreover, each individual that is infected with a particular virus strain tends to show similar symptoms to others that have been infected with the same virus. It is these two characteristics that I want to focus on with regard to infecting the world’s population this new “virus”.

Why Would You Pay it Back When You Can Pay it Forward?

Quite some years ago I saw a wonderful movie called Pay It Forward, to which many people attribute the phrase of the same name and the “good deed” mentality that accompanies it. In the movie, the phrase “pay it forward” referred to doing a “good deed” for three NEW people, so as to pay FORWARD a good deed that was done for you.

Of course, this “pay it forward” idea is certainly not new (nor was it when the book was penned). It actually pre-dates even the well respected Ben Franklin who described “paying it forward” with the following words:

“I do not pretend to give such a Sum; I only lend it to you. When you [...] meet with another honest Man in similar Distress, you must pay me by lending this Sum to him; enjoining him to discharge the Debt by a like operation, when he shall be able, and shall meet with another opportunity. I hope it may thus go thro’ many hands, before it meets with a Knave that will stop its Progress. This is a trick of mine for doing a deal of good with a little money.”

It is also useful to recognize, in my opinion, that “paying it forward” should not always have to involve the giving of financial assistance or doing physical labor, although, in many cases, it does. A much simpler approach to “paying it forward” is described in great detail on my new website WhyTheCards.com, but here is the premise of the site (and the vision) in brief.

Appreciation & Encouragement – The Currency of Relationships

Nearly a century ago, Charles Schwab was hired by Andrew Carnegie to be the president of the new United States Steel Company. Schwab’s starting salary: $1,000,000 per year or approximately $3,000 per DAY (at a time when $3,000/YEAR was considered to be an excellent wage).

This immense salary was a result of Schwab’s impeccable ability to effectively deal|deal|effectively interact) with people, according to Schwab himself. He had this to say:

“I consider my ability to arouse enthusiasm among my people,” said Schwab, “the greatest asset I possess, and the way to develop the best that is in a person is by appreciation and encouragement.”

The newly launched WhyTheCards.com website is all about applying the “pay it forward” ideal to this oft ignored idea of encouragement and appreciation, but via a simple and unique method that infects people like a virus until it, literally, touches hundreds of thousands or even millions of people – hopefully (it’s success depends upon individuals such as yourself).

As Easy as Sending a Postcard

Most people would likely be amazed to discover what a positive impact a simple postcard can have on a friend who’s just had a ridiculously hard day or is wrestling with a serious personal or family tragedy – or even on a person who’s just had an exceptionally good day. As an example, just a note to point out something special about their personality that really makes them stand out. Thank them for something nice they did for you or someone you know. Congratulate them for a recent success or just let them know you’ve been praying for them.

Drop them a note to invite them out to lunch or to tell them that you’ll be bringing THEM dinner this Friday. Better yet, encourage them to do something nice for someone else as well. It’s amazing, when you’re going through a difficult situation in life, just how much it can encourage YOU when you’re able to help someone else.

Send a card just to remind someone that THEY have value, that THEY have talents and abilities that NOBODY else has and that they ought to use those gifts to help people. Just a simple card can mean so much. And, it doesn’t have to take alot of time or cost alot of money to do it.

The Responsibilities of Caring for Freshwater Fish,Some Things You Should Know About Freshwater Fish Care

Jul 31st, 2009 Posted in pets | no comment »

Some people may be of the mind that freshwater fish care is a seemingly non-existent process. However, freshwater fish should not be thought of as a pet that can easily be set up and forgotten about. Fish require a certain amount of care, and as with any pet, only those who are willing to take on the responsibility for another life should entertain the idea of a pet. However, you should consider the fact that pets can be excellent pets for both busy and laid-back lifestyles.

First before you buy any fish make sure that you do adequate research concerning the fish of your choice; but take your time, as there are many types of freshwater fish. Make sure you don’t put various types of aggressive fish in the same tank. This will lead to an early destruction of your tank. Also when researching the fish you want to make sure to understand what kind of habitat they need. Since we are doing a freshwater tank make sure the fish aren’t saltwater fish. This is another guaranteed way to end the life of the fish quickly..

Of course you should quickly develop a dependable feeding schedule for your fish. Always consult the company that you buy the fish from to fully understand the type of food needed and how often it should be given to them.. You don’t want to under-feed or over-feed your fish if you can help it. So again research is an adequate process here like other pets.

Cleaning the fish tank is a very important aspect of fish maintenance, yet one that doesn’t have to be done everyday. The general tip is that one third of the water in the tank should be changed out monthly to ensure that the fish have a clean, healthy environment. Remember–fish breathe through the water in the tank, and if it’s too dirty, they won’t be able to breath very well.

If you remember to follow these steps and act accordingly when purchasing a freshwater aquarium fish, then you will be fine. Your fish should live a healthy life and last as long as they are supposed to.

Over Medicating Our Bipolar Children And Why?

Jul 31st, 2009 Posted in health | no comment »

Our society today are so obsessed with so many things including how we feel, look and perform in public. It is the reason we have turned into a people who are “medicated freaks.” In this article we will try to give some reasons and problems our society are faced with in regards to bipolar and the use of bipolar medication.

Problem One – Outside Pressures

When teachers and everybody are met with an overactive child people around are fast to advise parents for their child to go on bipolar medication. This is because we and teachers want to have a cookie cutter classroom.” Everybody has turned into what we call self taught authorities” in determining the problems with children. This is very frightening but more frightening is; more than half of parents were advised by these smart authorities that their children should go on medication. Our children are put on medicated drugs because of the amount of pressures from these non professionals.

2nd Problem ” Quick Fix

The second problem is; we do not work to de-stress our lives, instead we take a pill and if its not working within an one hour or so , we take another dose. What we are actually doing, we are not giving time for our body do deal with the problem slowly. Another example, our little child sneezes we immediately rush for the children s medications. If they don’t like it we must run to our local chemist to get the flavor that is right; it may be from some dust, which just needs some time to get out of the system, instead we put in drugs and medication.

Third Problem ” Wrong Diagnosis

We find that a lot of doctors are fast in prescribing strong medication to very young children with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder ( ADHD). In a lot of cases it may cure the present illness, sometime other symptoms which were not present resurface, so other drugs is given. This can be compared to the person who swallowed a fly and to get the fly she had to take in the spider to catch the fly and the rat to get rid of the spider. Most doctors are too proud to admit that they they are lost in their diagnosis and so pump medication after medication, stimulants and ant stimulants, antidepressants and antipsychotics into the young child’s body.

Fourth Problem ” Availability of Drugs

Because the present society is hooked with immediate gratification, the easy excess of drugs adds wood to the fire. Most of us who have the money to burn want the fix it NOW problem. Instead of becoming patient, we become very impatient to what is happening in our body. The body must be helped to use its own natural ability to fight its problems.

5th ” Money

All pharmaceuticals are wanting to sell their drugs whatever the cost. Most doctors do not know the real strength of bipolar medications so familiar with outcome. Sometimes those who make the drugs and those prescribing it are all driven by money. This may offend some people, but aren’t we fed up with system.

Parting words

After all that is said I believe that before we run of to get medications for our children, why don’t you sit down and try the non medication approach which many parents have proven successful. Do you want your child to be a walking chemist plus bipolar symptoms?

Jul 31st, 2009 Posted in entertainment | no comment »

Event photography, these days is an attractive profession. People who cover events like weddings, conferences, sports events, award functions etc. are called event photographers.

It is generally believed that event photography is an simple job, wherein all a person has to do is appear at the event and keep taking photographs every now and then. Nothing could be farther from the truth. An event photographer needs to have some key skills to excel at his job, which he/she can sharpen through many advanced courses available for this purpose.

Originality is important for an event photographer along with an instinctive quality to sense the mood of the event. For instance, a wedding needs to be shot in a completely different manner than a sports event. Therefore, the photographer should have a flair for capturing the mood of an event in his images.

Event photography also requires many organizational skills. A bumbling and careless approach doesn’t quite work in event photography. The photographer must always be prepared with all his equipment before the event starts. Taking the job lightly and walking in an event without any planning will jeopardize your chances of doing well in this profession.

An event photographer should be technically sound and fit for the job. Knowledge about the technical aspects of photography gadgets has a bearing on the end results. The use of light and different angles is critical in any form of photography and a photographer should know how to use them in different situations.

A Review of Poker Professional Fred Sarge Ferris

Jul 31st, 2009 Posted in entertainment | no comment »

Ever heard of Fred “Sarge” Ferris? Mr. Ferris was a wiz at the game of poker and profited from it nicely. He realized that some just play poker to have fun, and others play it as a hobby. Fred “Sarge” Ferris played to make money, not just for casual spending but to make it his lifestyle.

Fred “Sarge” Ferris grew up in the Great Depression and his father did everything to put food on the table. Living in poverty, his brother enlisted in the Navy and later became a well-known watchmaker and jeweler. He wanted to choose a different path. So he picked up gambling. He didn’t call it gambling. He was a consummate professional, never showing off his cards or giving away any information.

Fred “Sarge” Ferris became a decorated poker player winning his first tournament in a deuce-to-seven draw. He later became a gold bracelet winner at the World Series of poker. Although he wasn’t much for attention, winning tournaments starting getting him publicity. After Ferris collected his winnings he was approached by Stu Ungar.

Stu Ungar told Ferris that he legitimately could win the world series title. It took a lot of convincing too because he told Ferris that he had never played in the World Series Of Poker before. Somehow he did it and Ferris put him in. Ungar was listed as an extreme long shot with odds at 100:1. Ungar played masterfully making the final table and defeating Ferris’s long time rival Doyle Brunson.

On April 22nd 1983 IRS agents approached Ferris in the card room and seized $46,000 in chips. It made headlines in on news circuits while sitting at Binion’s Horseshoe at high stakes games. The money was then reportedly seized because of back taxes Ferris owed to the federal government. One of the agents told Ferris to use the remaining money and buy a taco.

Fred “Sarge” Ferris and his scandal outrage the local Hispanic communities. Protesting that one of the agents mocked Ferris’ ethnicity. His parents were born in Lebanon but he was somehow mistaken for a Mexican. This was all a misunderstanding. Ferris said the agent was trying to be nice. The incident died off eventually.

During most of his life, he spent all of his time at the poker table. It seems appropriate to have his tombstone made out of a poker table, he died there. On March 12th, 1989, after playing in a high-stakes cash game, He suffered a massive heart attack. His funeral was held in Las Vegas. Many people attended his funeral. People came to show their condolences, some were happy he had died.

However after everything Ferris brought to the game he became the 18th inductee into the poker hall of fame. Later that year after a long investigation by both Las Vegas casinos and the Indian gaming commission, Ferris would be linked as one of five men who was in debt to the mob. To Fred’s credit the mob would never see their money.

Fred “Sarge” Ferris will forever be remember for his intelligence on the table and achievements he accomplish. Some of Ferris’s techniques are still used today and have earned him the respect of today’s and future poker players worldwide.
