Paying someone to make you up a custom motorcycle number plate is one of the best ways to make your motorcycle one of a kind for little cash.
It doesn’t matter if you want to create a road bike that’s a little different from all the others out there of you want to build a show winning monster, a cool number plate is always a welcome addition.
For those of us in the UK it never used to be too hard to find a garage willing to make up some lovely customised plates for a small fee but changes in the law mean that it is no longer quite as simple.
Unfortunately things have changed with the law recently and its no longer as simple. If you search online you can still find companies who will sell you a kit to make your own plates but you can find one who will sell you the finished product.
The reason its now so much more difficult to find someone who will do the dirty work for you in regards to number plate manufacturer is that it is now illegal to supply number plates which have the potential to be used on the public highway that don’t meet the specifications set out by the DVLA.
UK companies selling plates for road use need to meet the standards or they face the possibility of being prosecuted. These legal plates are obviously nice and easy to read by the police and other road users so its not hard to understand why we are required to follow these rules.
If you are still desperate to get a individual number plate and don’t want to make it at home form a kit then you’ll need to find a number plates maker who doesn’t mind taking his chances with the law. Keep in mind though that if you get stopped by the police there is always the possibility that you could be landed with a small fine and a few points on your license.
