Department Stores That Are Worth Your Time

TJ Maxx is my wife’s favorite store. For some reason, you can find name brand clothing at one fifth the cost. Sure, it might not be the absolute newest model but unless you are a runway model, how would you know?

Nordstorm has a huge following and also a semi annual sale twice every year. Usually, the retailer has three floors and the main floor is packed while the upper floors have much less traffic because the stuff for sale are much more expensive. In addition, Nordstorm has a great outlet type store called Nordstorm Rack that is extremely popular.

Sak’s Fifth Avenue is ultra high end. It’s got Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Armani, you name it, they have it. The layout of the retailer is often a little weird but hey, it doesn’t matter if they are making money right?

Robinson’s May used to be my favorite department store because my boss would give us all gift certificates every December during Christmas time. After it went under and bought by Macy’s though, that has become my new favorite since I have so many gift cards that I have to use.

Sears doesn’t really specialize in anything but it sells many power tools and home appliances. In fact, they have this blue crew thing that will help you install and maintain your home appliances. It’s really neat and if you are looking to buy a fridge or a washer and dryer, give them serious consideration.

Target is actually a discount store but it tries to brand itself with nicer looking interiors. It’s certainly better looking than Walmart but when you think of cheap, you don’t go to Target even though the products there are sometimes the cheapest.

Walmart is the granddaddy of discount retailers. The prices are so good that for years, they’ve been killing the mom and pop stores because they have more variety with cheaper prices. Sure, they are always in the news for low labor rates and all that but if it means saving you money, aren’t you still going to buy there?

JC Penny is now the queen of everyday department store after Robinson’s May went under. This department store doesn’t have the glamorous look that others do but whenever you walk in, you find great savings because everything is so inexpensive.
